This question is for my African American sisters about hair...?

I have been wearing weave off and on for a while now...until last November and I have been wearing it since. I usually go to a beauty salon and my stylist uses bonding glue. I have been thinking about my hair condition and I how I still want it to be healthy. Is it better to sew the hair in? If so, how long do you wear it? Do you need to moisture the braids underneath? If so, how? What have been your experiences?

I have been weaving for years now and sewn in is by far healthier for your hair... provided your stylist knows what he/she doing. The key point to remember: Make sure the track braid isn't too tight. This can cause permanent damage and even hair loss. If they feel tight, don't let your stylist sew on them. Take them out and start over. Remember it's your hair, and could potentially be your hair loss. This has happened more than once with clients and any good professional should be happy to accommodate you.

Also, keep in mind that tracks tend to be more expensive than bonding because they're more time consuming.

I have never kept in a sewn weave for longer than 4 weeks and have washed and conditioned it at bi weekly intervals. As a matter of fact I recommend a deep conditioning before putting one in and leave in conditioners on the tracks as often as necessary (some women need this daily).

The last thing I recommend is taking a little extra time to look at your stylist sewn in weaves. The fact is, while a lot of my colleagues have excellent bonding skills, it is far harder to find one who can sew a track properly. I've seen some sloppy messes in my time and have fixed or replaced many of them. Hope you found this helpful

I don't know much about weaves or extensions, but I don't think that using bonding glue is healthy at all! If there is another option to sew hair in, that would be better I would think.

I am not sure because I dont wear weave or fake hair.

but my cousin and her mom use glue, it probably is better to sew it in but then it might not look as good (unless you use a super tiny french braid to sew it to)

It's better to have a weave sewed in, because when it's glued it breaks off your hair. I have a full head weave right now. You should only wear it for a month or two at the most. It realy depends on how well the hair is and how active you are. You can moisture the breads underneath just by spraying it with some type of oil.

well when your hair i sew in it is better to keep up with and easyier to take care of because you can put oils in your hair without worring about the glue slipping out...if i was you i would get it sew in because your hair tends to grow faster when you have braids

Well i am also African American and wear weave. If you take it out make you wash it. Its better to sew it because you lose less hair when you take out. You can keep it in until it looks a mess and starts to get loose

ok, i'm a mixed italian/senegaleese girl... but i have to say that i don't think this is too healthy for your hair... i have curly hair that i straighten one to two times a week with a flat iron, and that's still not healthy... so maybe you should show off your heritage, eh? you have beautiful, natural hair. why try to hide it?

Hello I'm a cosmetology teacher and have a salon. Glue OK for a short time , sewing is much better for the hair it can last a month if your hair is healthy, you can shampoo and condition the weave along with your hair. And yes you can get in between the braids and oil the scalp and hair, the thread that we use won't pop it has to be cut out,sew in cost more.You'll love it , do it.

my aunt is a hairdresser and she says that sewed in is better for your hair because the glue will mess up your hair you can do more hair styles with a sewed in weave so therefore it looks more natural you can keep sewed in weave in for three months just make sure that the cornrows a small you need to keep your hair clean and moisturized you can talk to a hairstylist about this because all hair types are different
