Cosmetologist's please....?

I know that you do not have to have a cosemtology lisence to do braids, but do you have to have one to sew and glue in tracks/ hair weave? If so is there any technical schools that solely teach you how to do hairweaves?

You do need a licence to do salon work, unless your are a braider, loctician, or a shampooer, in most states.

A sew-in is a procedure to be done by pros. Techniqulally it can be done by someone not licenced. But most salons will reserve that hairstyle for licenced stylist.

There are no technical schools that teach just hair weaving. There are classes that are given by cosmetology shcools, and some succesfull stylist that focus on one styling technique such as: braiding, weaving, and cutting. There are also DVD's that you can buy on weaving, braiding, etc.

Hmmm, not too sure. You may want to call any salon that does them and ask.

You don't have to have a license to do hair period. The only thing a license does for you is get you a job in a salon and allows you to charge better rates....

my wife is a hairdresser and she says.. " well it looks like "lil atl ma" doesn't know what he/she is talking about. Yes you do have to have a license to cut/colour/perm/highlight hair/chemically straighten hair etc. If you don't have a license and you promote you are a hairstylist and screw up someones hair, they can and will sue you. There is a reason you have to write a license, it's to prove to the government and to the public that you have been, and are educated in these different areas, and understand the cause and effect of different products and chemicals. If you are uneducated about the chemical and molecular structure of hair, and chemicals for the hair and you do irreversable damage to someones hair and scalp.. you are going to be in a world of trouble.

Now, as for the hairweave/tracks, you may be able to get a certification into just that specific area of hair. Call around to the different hair schools in your area and to beauty supply places ( they sometimes offer courses too) ask them if they offer an independant hairweaving block with certification.. Good luck

Cosmetologist's please....?

no and yes you do if you are doing braids and charging for them.It is illegal to do any hair service and charge for it if you are not licensed

I know our schools never taught that but I am sure their are hairweave companies that hold seminars to teach there products .If they didnt theier products wouldnt get used. They do teach some braiding in school.
