do you get people who stare at you like their eyes are popping out? tell you, you should perm or relax your hair? look down on you when they see your hair (look at your hair and look down)? do you get less dates because of it? just curious.
i know natural black people's hair is taboo, strange, and odd to many, and our many of our own black men/other people of other races, have been brainwashed with the ideal of long straight hair, or straight hair, and they don't like us with our natural hair.
also i don't want to hear people say, i have good hair, or i am perming my hair, or wearing a weave. i addressed this the way i did for a reason.
A question for black women with natural hair?
most kinky haired black women say that it's black people who are the most negative to them. latinos sometimes, too.
they say that family/friends/strangers make ugly comments (family members thinking nappy hair is actually a sin... rotf), give them stares, try to pressure them into relaxing/pressing it. some have said that black men stay away (but white guys start flockin).
black people feel that natural hair is shameful and anyone who is proud of it is wrong. do you see how stupid that is? how can you be ashamed of something that is characteristic of your race? but that is exactly the problem: black people AREN'T proud of being black. it's no coincidence that we hate dark skin and kinky hair, the blackest things about us.
black people are scared of what non-blacks (mainly whites) are thinking when they see kinky hair since it is so "black" -- although the whole friggin world already knows we have nappy hair (so why are we trying to hide it?). i figure that if you want people to accept your hair, if you want to get rid of all the stereotypes surrounding it, you could at least start by accepting it yourself. you know, by wearing it.
if you have a problem with kinky hair, 9 times outta 10 it's because you have a problem with black people. it is unfairl and wrong for people to tell blacks they cannot wear their hair the way it grows from their head simply because they feel threatened by it.
sorry for the mini rant.
A question for black women with natural hair?
exactly...they have been programmed to think that lassie style hair is the only acceptable way to wear your hair..which weakens our super strong 9 ether hair..looking at fake blond jesus pics doesnt help, neither does the dolls for little girls in breaking the cycle..only more women walking with the natural in confidence will change the mindset...keep your stride baby
A question for black women with natural hair?
I know this is a question for black women but, I got to ask. My girlfriend is a black women and I have been trying to get her to do something with her natural hair. She is always spending money on covering it up with one thing or another. After a while it ends up stinking and that black crap gets allover the place. She tells me that this is what we do! I know she would look great with a short fro or maybe pull it back in a bun. I don't know. I guess I have to take her to one of those expensive salons and have a gay dude work on her.......LOL! Any suggestions?
A question for black women with natural hair?
I think it depends on the culture in which you live.
ethnic styles are very popular on the east coast and in mid west cities.
many sport them along side those with straight hair.
How one wears their hair can depend greatly on what is what is considered norm or trendy.
In the end, it really depends on the individual, just who YOU are,how secure you are in your own skin and how you choose to express yourself.
I have been wearing my hair in a curly 'fro for over a year.
I have medium length hair.
I have changed my color to a ash brown.
Believe it or not, I receive a lot of compliments from other Black females on my hair, most of whom are sporting straight hair themselves!
The best thing you can do is make sure you keep your ends moisturized, your 'fro neat.
as far as the "good hair" comments...bless/pity them for those who utter such terms have yet to reach their enlightenment.
I cannot comment on whether or not men whouldn't be attracted to one with natural hair as I am married.
However, I think you should meditate to attract "like" minded friends who are on your same wave lenght.

A question for black women with natural hair?
Another question on hair ....(again!)
I love my hair, but it's not really that Afro, not like it is when washed!
My hair is naturally straight and have never needed to get it pressed!
Who cares if others look at our hair,so what!,let them look all they like,it wouldn't bother me....so don't let it get you down! :)
